CAIRO, May 7 (MENA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty received Thursday a phone call from Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani during which they discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two friendly countries as well as the latest regional developments.
During the call, the Egyptian foreign minister praised distinguished relations between Egypt and Italy, affirming Egypt’s keenness on enhancing all aspects of bilateral ties and elevate them to broader horizons.
Abdelatty also voiced aspiration to continue supporting economic and investment relations with Italy and boosting trade exchange between the two countries.
The two ministers exchanged views on the rapidly evolving developments in the region. The Egyptian foreign minister briefed his Italian counterpart on Egypt’s intensive efforts over the recent period to de-escalate tensions in coordination with regional and international partners, stressing the importance of intensifying efforts to support the course of the US-Iran negotiations and the ongoing endeavors aimed at reaching a political settlement.
Abdelatty further underscored the importance of adhering to the negotiation track and continuing efforts to reach understandings among the parties concerned in a way that would help consolidate the ceasefire, end the war and ease regional tensions.
The call also touched on developments in the Gaza Strip, as Abdelatty stressed that the current regional escalation should not divert attention from the necessity of completing the implementation of all entitlements of the second phase of the US plan, including the deployment of an international stabilization force, ensuring the unhindered entry of humanitarian aid, and launching early recovery and reconstruction programs.
Regarding the situation in Lebanon, the foreign minister reiterated Egypt’s firm and supportive stance toward Lebanon and its rejection of any infringement on Lebanese sovereignty or territorial integrity.
He further stressed the need for a full Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territories and the comprehensive implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 without selectivity.
For his part, the Italian foreign minister praised constructive role played by Egypt in coordination with regional and international partners to de-escalate tensions in the region.
The two ministers agreed to continue coordination and consultations and to intensify efforts aimed at reducing escalation, stressing that diplomatic solutions remain the best option for supporting security and stability in the region and the world. (MENA)
