BUFFALO, N.Y. — Businesses in Buffalo and Quebec are getting in on the rivalry during the NHL playoffs.
One Montreal restaurant is pulling all Buffalo items from the menu, re-branding the Buffalo wings, wraps and sandwiches as Quebec wings, wraps and sandwiches. In retaliation, a Buffalo supermarket is taking Montreal steak seasoning off the shelves, leaving a note in its place rooting for the Sabres.
“We’re banning the buffalo wing sauce, the buffalo wraps, the buffalo poutine, the buffalo chicken burger, we’re changing the name. We’re still serving the sauces, but it’s not going to be called buffalo,” said Austin Beauchamp, owner of Cunningham’s Pub in Montreal.
“Well we just want to play along. If they’re going to take it off the menus, we’re going to take it off ourselves,” said Tony Pacella, director of operations at Dash’s Market in Buffalo.
Both businesses say this whole rivalry is all in good fun. If you really want that Montreal seasoning, Dash’s Market will get you a packet if you ask for one.
