ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) – RIT men’s lax has gotten so used to being a dominant program, a 15-4 season is suddenly considered a step down from the usual.

For context, this is their most losses heading into the Division III NCAA Tournament since 2010, when the Tigers were 13-5 after winning the Empire 8 Tournament. That was also head coach Jake Coon’s first season.

So despite a 15-4 record meaning a “down” season, RIT is still holding their heads high.

“Four losses in most people’s book is a really, really good season,” said Coon. “I think the standard’s set high here and disappointed to lose those games, but I think it built some character and prepared us for this moment.

“I think we did a very good job of learning from our losses and moving forward,” said 6th-year senior Jamie Hunt.

Hunt was a freshman on the 2021 winning squad and a sophomore when RIT men’s lax ran it back in 2022. He wants to go out with a bang.

“Being in the locker room and then afterwards seeing the pure excitement and joy of guys who got to contribute to such a meaningful task, that’s something that will ever last in my mind,” said Hunt.

RIT’s first game is in the second round of the tournament, against Elmhurst on Saturday at 6 p.m. That game will be in Salisbury, MD.
