CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. — Canandaigua police say a dog was killed after it attacked its owner and officers, leaving the owner with severe injuries.
At around 2:29 p.m. Wednesday, officers responded to the report of a woman screaming on Chapin Street. When officers got there, they say they saw a woman with severe injuries to her left arm trying to restrain a Pitbull.
Police say when they tried to help the woman in restraining the dog, the dog lunged at officers. They say the dog was initially tased by an officer, but broke free.
The dog then charged at another officer, who shot and killed the dog, police say.
The owner, a 50 year old from Canandaigua, was brought to F.F. Thompson Hospital with severe injuries to both arms.
Investigators say the dog was attacking another dog when the owner tried to intervene. The other dog was transported by the Ontario County Humane Society to a veterinarian clinic for emergency care.
Police say it is believed this is the same dog that attacked and injured its owner on March 20, 2024. This dog was tased by an officer to stop the attack, police say.
