Olympic champion Florent Manaudou stepped off the pool deck and into the TV studio, starring in the French television show À priori. Manaudou appears in season two of the series, which was released March 31st on France 3.

The police comedy follows rookie captain Iris Villeneuve, played by Lucia Passaniti, as she is stationed in the south of France and clashes with veteran cop Victor Montagnac; the pair must work together to investigate a suspicious case while trying to hide secrets about their respective pasts.

Actor Bruno Salomone, who played Montagnac in season one, makes only small appearances in the new season, as he was unable to reprise his role due to illness. The 55-year-old died on March 15th, shortly before season two was released.

In the absence of Salomone’s character Montagnac, a new character was introduced in season two, with Manaudou playing the role of police captain Jean-Mathieu “Jim” Alberti.

This is not Manaudou’s first time stepping into the acting sphere, as he has appeared in a handful of other series over the years, including Vestiaires and Section de recherches. À priori marks Manaudou’s first recurrent television role.

Manaudou commented on his experiences with filming during a press conference.

“I was very well received. Benoît Masocco, the series producer, told me that the actors were happy I was there,”  Manaudou said. “It did me good because I almost had imposter syndrome. I didn’t want to take someone else’s place. I learned little by little, and the team welcomed me very warmly.”

Manaudou made his Olympic debut in 2012, winning gold in the men’s 50 free at the London Games at the age of 21. He has gone on to compete at three more Olympic Games and earn a total of six medals over the years; he became the first swimmer to win a medal in the men’s 50 free at four straight Olympics, culminating with a bronze medal in the 50 free in Paris.

Following his performance at the 2024 Paris Games, Manaudou announced that he would be taking a break from competing but planned to return to the sport after some time off. Last year, he was a contestant on season 14 of France’s Danse avec les Stars, where he and his partner Elsa Bois took second in the competition.

Season three of À priori has not yet been announced, but Manaudou has said he is open to returning in the same role if schedules align.
