SOUTH BRISTOL, N.Y. — The Cheshire Fire Department and other first responders helped rescue a woman and her dog stranded down the side of a cliff over the weekend.

According to Chief Chris Brown, crews were dispatched just before 2 p.m. Saturday to Seneca Hill Drive in the Town of South Bristol for a report of a woman and a dog stranded on the side of a cliff.

When Chief Brown got there, he says he found a 33-year-old woman and her dog about 40 feet down the cliff face.

Fire crews came up with a plan quickly and started setting up for a technical rope rescue operation, Brown says. A rescuer was lowered to the woman and the dog.

Brown says the rescue took about an hour to complete. He says the woman and her dog were successfully brought to safety without injury.

Other agencies that helped include Bristol Fire, Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, and Naples Ambulance.
