2026 University of Hawaii Spring Fling
April 25-27, 2026 Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex Long Course Meters (50 meters) Results on Meet Mobile: “University of Hawaii Spring Fling”Michael Andrew raced in his second meet of 2026 last weekend after returning to training with his long-time coach Peter Andrew, also his father, in Hawaii late last year.
Andrew raced to wins in the 50 free (22.85), 50 breast (27.82), and also swam 24.09 in prelims of the 50 fly before scratching finals.
Those times in the 50 breast and 50 fly were all faster than he swam at the U.S. Open in December, so positive progress there, though slower than he swam at the Pro Swim Series in Westmont in March (22.28 in the 50 free, 27.00 in the 50 breast).
With stroke 50s now in the Olympic Games, Andrew has mostly shifted his focus to those races ahead of the Los Angeles 2028 Games.
Andrew represented the U.S. at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where he won a gold medal and set a World Record as the breaststroke leg of the men’s 400 medley relay.
At the 2024 Trials, he finished 5th in the 50 free, 8th in the 100 breast, and 13th in the 100 fly, missing a return appearance to the Olympic Games.
That showing led to him trying a new training group and style for the first time in his career, moving to Arizona State to train with sprint guru Herbie Behm. After one season of training there, he finished 10th in the 50 free, 2nd in the 50 breast, 4th in the 100 breast, and 2nd in the 50 fly at the US National Championships. That qualified him for Worlds, where he placed 25th in the 50 breast and 16th in the 50 fly.
Also racing at the meet was three-time Aruban Olympian Mikel Schreuders, who has been training with Michael and Peter Andrew in Hawaii – a rare long-term training partner for Andrew in their USRPT, race-paced system.
He finished with meet-best times of 23.11 in the 50 free, 25.39 in the 50 fly, and 28.52 in the 50 breast.
Outside of the pros, the most notable result from the meet came from 15-year-old Amare San Diego. A member of the Kamehameha Swim Club, he swam a best time of 29.54 in the 50 breaststroke. His previous best was a 29.91 done at Sectionals last July.
That time ranks San Diego as the 3rd-fastest 15-year-old American in the event this season (Reff McMeeking from Florida, 28.77; Cullen Kahl from Houston, 29.52).
