LSU was the king of college baseball last June in Omaha, but 2026 hasn’t exactly been an encore championship-worthy performance for the Tigers, at least so far.
But those struggles this season were put on hold this past weekend against South Carolina, as LSU had its way, capping its first SEC sweep of the season with a 7-0 victory on Sunday to give the home fans in Baton Rouge something to cheer about.
It was the Tigers’ second shutout of an SEC opponent this season and it improved their overall record to 27-21. LSU is still only 9-15 in the SEC, but there is still the upcoming conference tournament for the Tigers to try to make up for lost time. They certainly did that this weekend, helping them try to forget about the 3 straight SEC series sweeps they had suffered coming into the South Carolina series.
LSU’s 9-game losing streak in SEC play was the longest in the Tigers’ proud program history, but they put all of that suffering to the side this past weekend against the equally struggling Gamecocks (22-27, 7-17 SEC).

— LSU Baseball (@LSUbaseball) May 3, 2026Sophomore catcher Cade Arrambide was an offensive force for LSU during the weekend blitz. He went 7 for 13 with 4 RBIs and 3 runs scored in the 3 games.
LSU’s offense as a whole was on fire all weekend, as the Tigers swept a doubleheader on Saturday with 6-1 and 7-3 victories before tacking on 7 more runs on Sunday.
William Patrick and Jack Ruckert also came up with huge weekends for the Tigers, combining for 6 hits and 5 runs scored in the sweep.
LSU had a great weekend, but the Tigers are far away from where they were last season, a magical year that ended with a College World Series title. Here is what the Kalshi market is currently saying about the odds for the top teams to officially supplant LSU as national champion in June:
