The fifth-ranked Georgia baseball team will be without starting outfielder Henry Allen for the remainder of the Bulldogs’ pivotal SEC weekend series against Missouri this weekend after injuring his knee Friday night.
Allen’s injury occurred in the second inning while trying to leg out a grounder to third – as the left fielder tried to avoid a tag after a high throw. Allen was called out and came down awkwardly, requiring assistance to leave the field.
Georgia coach Wes Johnson said after the 4-0 Bulldogs victory that he would know more after Allen is examined Saturday morning.
“Right now, we know it’s a knee,” Johnson said to The Augusta Chronicle. “He’s got an appointment in the morning. Doc just said, ‘Hey, I’m not going to speculate. We’re going to go get some pictures.’ Obviously, he’ll be out the weekend more than likely. I’ll say that. Yeah, I’m going to say that because he’s probably going to be pretty sore the next two days either way.”
Allen has started all but one SEC game for Georgia after transferring from Northwest Florida State. He is hitting .321 with 13 homers and his 41 RBIs – the latter stat being tied for second among Georgia hitters entering Friday’s game.
