EAST PORT SAID, Egypt, April 30 (MENA) – President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Thursday reaffirmed the State’s firm commitment to protecting workers’ rights and ensuring a decent work environment, describing Egyptian workers as the backbone of national development.

Speaking during a Labor Day celebration held at the Egyptian National Railway Industries Company (NERIC) in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) in East Port Said, Sisi extended greetings and appreciation to workers, stressing that Egypt’s ongoing comprehensive development would not have been possible without their efforts.

The president underlined the State’s drive to localize industries, saying that the “Made in Egypt” concept represents a national commitment to building a strong economy, safeguarding national security, optimizing resource utilization and creating opportunities for future generations.

Sisi noted that national projects and private sector support have contributed to generating hundreds of thousands of jobs, reaffirming that Egyptian workers remain central to the development process.

He said sustainable development requires determination, scientific training and the integration of education with employment and investment policies, renewing directives to finalize and implement the national employment strategy with regular progress reports.

The president also encouraged the private sector and civil society to prioritize vocational training and contribute to preparing a skilled workforce through modern curricula and specialized institutions.

The State is working to expand job opportunities domestically and abroad, ensuring that Egyptian labor remains protected and respected through international agreements and close monitoring, said the president.

To improve workers’ conditions, Sisi directed the disbursement of an exceptional monthly grant of LE1,500 for irregular workers registered with the Ministry of Labor for three months from May to July 2026.

He also ordered exemptions for certain categories of irregular workers from fees related to skill certification and work permits to facilitate their integration into the formal economy.

Additionally, the president directed increasing compensation for workplace fatalities from LE200,000 to LE300,000, alongside raising compensation for total and partial disability cases based on the degree of injury.

Sisi also ordered the launch of a labor market platform to boost employment rates and support youth skill development in line with market needs.

He further directed the formation of permanent committees involving relevant ministries to align labor market needs with education and training outputs, with periodic reports to be submitted on their progress.

The president concluded by reaffirming that workers’ rights and aspirations remain a top priority, pledging continued efforts to enhance skills, expand employment opportunities and strengthen social protection. (MENA)
