A northwest suburban teenager has been charged with murder in a recent shooting in Palatine, authorities said.
The 15-year-old, who remains unidentified due to his age, faces a first-degree murder charge in the killing of 20-year-old Kevin Koonce, of Streamwood.
According to police, Koonce was found inside a vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds around 9:30 p.m. on March 16 in the 1200 block of East Prairie Brook Drive.
Police said Koonce’s vehicle struck multiple parked cars on the roadway before he was found.
He was taken to an area hospital and pronounced dead.
The 15-year-old, who is from Palatine, was taken into custody Thursday and charged with one count of first-degree murder. The teen was later transported to the Cook County juvenile detention center in Chicago, with a hearing slated for Friday.
