Junior Nationals qualifier Grady Bell has announced his verbal commitment to compete for Florida State University beginning in the fall of 2027.

A high school junior from Austin, Texas, Bell currently trains year-round with Nitro Swimming, where he primarily specializes in free, back and fly.
Bell posted a series of top performances at the 2025 Winter Junior Championship – West in December, logging personal best times in four events. He placed 12th in the 200 back (1:45.92 – PB), 28th in the 100 back (48.94) and 88th in the 100 fly (49.97 – PB). He also posted lifetime bests in the 50 back (22.71) and 100 back (48.58) as the leadoff on both the 200 medley relay and 400 medley relay, respectively.
A few months later, Bell competed at the 2026 Justin Sectionals in March, where he turned in another string of fast performances. He took 2nd in the 50 back (22.55 – PB), 3rd in the 100 back (48.75), 6th in the 200 back (1:46.63) and 7th in the 200 free (1:39.29 – PB). He also logged a new personal best time in the 100 free (45.97) as the leadoff on the 400 free relay and was a part of the winning 800 free relay team.
Bell raced at the 2025 Junior National Championships (LCM) last summer, posting lifetime best times in two events. He contested the 50 back (27.79 – PB), 100 back (59.17), 200 back (2:07.37) and 50 fly (26.84 – PB). He lowered his personal best in the 50 back even further, throwing down a time of 27.34 as the backstroke leg on the 200 medley relay.

The Seminoles sent four athletes on to compete at the NCAA Division I Men’s Championship, where they finished 25th overall. To earn a second swim at the 2026 ACC Championships, it took times of 46.71/1:42.39 in the 100/200 back, 42.67/1:34.69 in the 100/200 free and 46.43 in the 100 fly, putting Bell outside the cutoff in each of his top events.
On the team itself, Bell would have ranked 5th in the 200 back and 6th in the 100 back this past season, giving him a chance to contribute some added depth for the Seminoles. With another full season to go before he arrives on campus, it remains to be seen exactly how the roster will shake out.
Currently set to join Bell at Florida State in the fall of 2027 are Joey Curcio (back/fly) and Nicolas Kokidko (free/fly/IM), who should both make for strong training partners over their four years together.
