Youngstown Phantoms, Zoldan family partners in Kentucky Derby contender
Phantom Fireworks and the Zoldan family, prominent figures in the Youngstown community, are making headlines as part of the ownership group behind The Puma, a contender in the 152nd running of the Kentucky Derby. The Kentucky Derby, one of the most prestigious events in thoroughbred horse racing, will take place this Saturday, with The Puma currently listed at 10-1 odds.
The Zoldan Family have partnered with four other entities in the ownership of The Puma. The horse will start from the 9th post position in the race.
For Phantom Fireworks and the Zoldan Family, the Kentucky Derby represents more than just a sporting event—it’s a powerful symbol of American tradition, energy, and spectacle. This year, that symbolism carries even greater meaning as the country approaches its historic 250th anniversary. “It really feels like this is where it all begins, the Kentucky Derby kicks things off, and from there it builds all the way to the Fourth of July. It’s that same energy, that same excitement, and the perfect way to start celebrating America’s 250th,” said Bruce Zoldan, Owner and CEO of Phantom Fireworks.
This is not the first time the Zoldan family has been associated with success in the Kentucky Derby. Bruce Zoldan was a partner in Team Valor International, the ownership group behind Animal Kingdom, the 2011 Kentucky Derby winner. Now, with The Puma, they return to the track aiming to create another unforgettable chapter—this time against the backdrop of America’s 250th.
“This is what America is all about, tradition, excitement, and coming together to celebrate,” said Mr. Zoldan. “As we look ahead to America’s 250th birthday, being part of an event as iconic as the Kentucky Derby feels like the perfect way to honor that spirit.” As the excitement builds for Saturday’s race, all eyes will be on The Puma as it competes for the coveted title in the “Run for the Roses.”
