News by : (NBC Chicago) -

Seven men were arrested in connection with a violent home invasion in suburban Winnetka in March, with six of the men facing charges to commit kidnapping and robbery and new details in the case revealed as an investigation remains ongoing.

The charges come after a federal grand jury indictment, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for Northern District of Illinois announced Tuesday. The men facing charges pleaded not guilty, authorities said, and were ordered detained pending trial.

According to authorities, arrest warrants for the men were obtained by the Chicago U.S. Attorney’s Office 12 days after the home invasion. Three of the men were taken into custody March 22, officials said, while three others were taken into federal custody April 12.

A seventh man arrested April 28, with charges forthcoming.

The unsealed indictment charges Dashun Brown, 24, of Chicago; David Franklin, 24, of Chicago; Anthony Ramsey, 22, of Chicago; Isaiah Dukes, 28, of Los Angeles; Khiell Dukes, 30, of Elgin; and Jalen Chambers, 24, of Bourbonnais with conspiracy to commit robbery and kidnapping in the incident, which unfolded the afternoon of March 8.

A report from the Chicago Sun-Times, Isaiah Dukes is a Chicago drill rapper who goes by Lil Zay Osama.

According to officials, Brown posed as a food delivery driver to lure a person inside the home in the 700 block of Rosewood Avenue to open the front door. Brown, Franklin, Chambers and two other co-conspirators armed with loaded guns then forced their way into the house.

The five men kept the person inside the residence captive for about an hour, using firearms to physically restrain them, prosecutor said. The captors then demanded access to a safe, computer and online cryptocurrency accounts, prosecutors said.

The men eventually fled the residence, later meeting up with Isaiah Dukes, Khiell Dukes, Ramsey and other co-conspirators, who searched the five men to ensure that all the proceeds from the robbery were collected, the indictment states.

A previous report from the Winnetka Police Department said the captors wore masks, and that the person held inside at gunpoint was able to escape.

Multiple other agencies assisted in the case, including the Chicago Field Division of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives; the Chicago FBI Field Office; the Winnetka Police Department; the Chicago Police Department; and police departments from Glencoe, Northbrook and Orland Park.

“By immediately deploying targeted federal resources to this investigation and working closely with our federal and local law enforcement partners, we were able to swiftly disrupt a violent criminal conspiracy and remove dangerous individuals from the streets in a matter of days,” said U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois Andrew S. Boutros said in a release. “I will continue to push hard to crack down on violent crime in the Chicago area, which means the U.S. Attorney’s Office is going to federally prosecute significant violent offenses throughout the city and suburbs. The people of the Northern District of Illinois deserve our tireless and unwavering efforts to hold violent offenders accountable, and they will get it.”

The kidnapping conspiracy count is punishable by a maximum sentence of life in federal prison, the U.S. District Attorney said, while the robbery conspiracy count is punishable by up to 20 years.
