ROCHESTER, N.Y. – More wet weather is on the way today. This morning will be fine however, with temperatures in the low to mid 50s among cloudy skies before rain arrives near midday. This will last through the evening, dumping 0.5 to 1.5″ of rain, with most of the rain will be falling southeast of Rochester. If Rochester sees an inch, this April will enter the top ten wettest Aprils ever recorded. To make things worse, it will turn cooler once the rain arrives, with afternoon temperatures possibly dipping into the 40s.
Though there may be some ponding on a few roads, we do not anticipate any large scale flood concerns with this rain so we’ll keep it Green on the Threat Tracker. Rain exits the region by 11pm.
The upper level low bringing in the rain and cooler temps will become cut off from the jet stream by tomorrow afternoon, which will act to extend our precipitation chances through Saturday. Note however, that chances are much lower than they are today. After that comes an extended cooler and wetter pattern as more lows cross through the region next week. This pattern may actually last through the first week or two of May… Of course we’ll be keeping our eye on any flood risks and impacts to outdoor events like the Lilac Festival which starts on Friday May 8th, so keep checking in for updates.
Stay tuned for updates on the forecast.
