With the 2026 college football season a little over 4 months away, former Alabama quarterback and Always College Football’s Greg McElroy released his list of the current top 10 quarterbacks in college football heading into the new season.
McElroy’s list includes 3 SEC quarterbacks: Arch Manning at No. 3, Trinidad Chambliss at No. 6 and Gunner Stockton at No. 9. McElroy also mentioned Auburn’s Byrum Brown as a name that just didn’t quite make the list.
Manning and Chambliss were shoo-ins to make this top 10, and you’ll find both of them on a lot more offseason lists to come. Manning has now spent 3 full seasons with Texas and is looking to put it all together and show off that 5-star potential in 2026 with a strong Longhorns receiving corps.
McElroy called Chambliss’ elite outing vs. Georgia in the Sugar Bowl defining moment of his season, and it’s impossible to disagree. The Ole Miss quarterback’s highs are as good as any player in the country, and he’ll be a top contender to win the Heisman trophy even without Lane Kiffin on the sidelines.
As for Stockton, McElroy praised his consistency, calling him a “point guard” who facilitates well and keeps the Bulldogs offense going while protecting the football. However, McElroy also noted that he’d like to see Stockton take some more chances pushing the ball downfield to take a step with his game.
Unfortunately for McElroy’s No. 8 pick, Brendan Sorsby’s leave of absence announcement broke just after he posted this list. With that said, here’s a look at McElroy’s top 10:
