SPENCERPORT, N.Y. — Lollypop Farm has announced a charge against a Spencerport man who investigators say used a high-powered hose to remove a cat from a tree, causing the cat to fall and die.
Lollypop Farm’s humane society says it happened on Oct. 3 and was caught on video shared on social media. The man, Douglas McPherson, was responding to a call for a cat in a tree as a member of the Spenceport Fire Department.
McPherson is charged with misdemeanor torturing and injuring animals. The humane society says a full investigation, rather than one video on social media, led to the charge. Here’s the statement from Reno DiDomenico, Vice President of Humane Law Enforcement at Lollypop Farm:
“This charge reflects the importance of gathering facts to determine causation and not relying solely on videos posted on social media. Our investigators carefully interviewed witnesses, reviewed statements, and examined evidence that supports criminal charges. We are grateful to the individuals who promptly reported the incident, including the Spencerport Fire District, which helped to ensure accountability in this case.”
