Virginia high school state finalist Ryan Moore has announced his commitment to swim for the United States Coast Guard Academy beginning in the fall of 2026. He publicized the news on SwimCloud, writing:
I’m excited to announce my commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at the United States Coast Guard Academy! A huge thank you goes out to my family, coaches, and teammates for the constant support throughout the years! Go Bears!
A senior at Mountain View High School, Moore has been a member of his school’s varsity swimming and diving team all four years. He currently trains year-round with the Rappahannock Stingrays Swim Team, where he primarily specializes in sprint freestyle and some butterfly.
Moore closed out his high school career at the Virginia High School League Class 6 State Championships in February, where he made the ‘A’ finals of both the 50 and 100 free. He finished sixth in the 100 (47.55) and seventh in the 50 (21.44), his best-ever placements at the meet and his second year making ‘A’ finals. His lifetime bests in both events came at the 2025 edition of the meet, where he went 20.89 in the 50 and 46.56 in the 100 to place seventh and eighth.
Moore wrapped up the short course season at the Virginia Senior Championships last month, where he made the ‘A’ finals of the sprint free events for the first time, finishing fifth in the 50 (21.23) and seventh in the 100 (46.67). He also placed 31st in the 100 fly (51.87) and 54th in the 200 free (1:46.12), with his 100 fly being his only personal best of the meet, dipping under his previous best of 52.01 from March 2025 by just over a tenth.
Moore also boasts a lifetime best of 1:44.09 in the 200 free from the RAYS Nutcracker Classic in December 2023.

50 Freestyle: 20.89 100 Freestyle: 46.56 200 Freestyle: 1:44.09 100 Butterfly: 51.87A Division III program, the United States Coast Guard Academy competes in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference, with the men’s team placing second out of seven teams at this past season’s conference championships. Based on the results from the meet, Moore’s personal bests would have qualified him for the ‘A’ final in the 50 free and ‘B’ finals in the 100 free, 200 free, and 100 fly, putting him in a position to be a key contributor right from the start.
Moore poised to rank second on the team in the 100 fly, fourth in the 50 and 100 free, and fifth in the 200 free next season. The Bears have a fairly young roster, with only one senior ranked ahead of him in each of those events, and they return all of their ‘A’ finalists in those races. Moore also should make a valuable addition to the team’s relays, which earned bronze in all but the 800 free relay in 2026.
He will also have the opportunity to train alongside Noah Reice, the reigning NEWMAC champion in the 50 free (19.97), 100 fly (46.94), and 200 fly, for one season.
Moore is currently the only publicized commit in the Bears’ class of 2030.
