2026 NFL Draft: Josiah Trotter and other linebackers Denver Broncos could target ...Middle East

The 2026 NFL Draft is here and the Denver Broncos will be on the clock later this evening as they look to take their No. 62 overall pick.

Denver has multiple needs at tight end—which we reviewed last week—defensive line, and inside linebacker. If they go linebacker, who will they target?

2026 NFL Draft: Will Broncos go after Josiah Trotter?

In the offseason, Denver cut ties with Dre Greenlaw and re-signed Justin Strnad at linebacker, but they still need more young talent at the position going forward.

That’s why multiple analysts think the Broncos will take a linebacker with their first pick.

Let’s explore who Denver could take.

CJ Allen, Georgia

Dane Brugler of The Athletic thinks Allen would be a great fit for Denver. He’s right. Allen is 6’1″ 230 pounds who has the physicality to stop runs in the gap as well as the athleticism to cover players in the pass game. He was also a first-team All-American with 8 tackles for a loss, 3.5 sacks and 2 forced fumbles on the season. The downside on Allen is he’s ESPN’s 45th overall ranked player. He’s likely to be gone before Denver selects 17 picks later.

Anthony Hill Jr., Texas

Nick Kosmider, also of The Athletic, predicts it will be Hill. Unfortunately for the Broncos, like with Allen, Hill is likely to be gone far before No. 62. After Day 1, Hill is the best linebacker still available as ESPN’s No. 35 player overall. He’s extremely fast, running a 4.51 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine and has the versatility to do it all from an inside linebacker perspective. Hill is a 3-down backer who is predicted to be a future Pro Bowler.

Kosmider said of his fit with the Broncos, “Hill is only 21 years old. He would have the benefit of learning coordinator Vance Joseph’s defense behind two savvy veterans as he prepared to ultimately step into a starting role.”

Josiah Trotter, Missouri

The most likely of these three linebackers is Josiah Trotter out of Missouri. According to ESPN, he’s the fifth-best remaining linebacker and the seventh-best of this 2026 NFL Draft, and he’s the No. 62 ranked player overall. That’s exactly where Denver selects tonight. Trotter was first-team All-SEC last year and lead the Tigers with 84 total tackles, including 13 TFLs and 2 sacks. Not only has he played great in college, his father Jeremiah also played 11 years in the NFL in the 90s for the Eagles. His brother Jeremiah also plays in the NFL and was drafted in 2024.

Trotter is a fantastic run defender, gets after the quarterback on blitzes, but he does struggle a bit in the pass coverage game. It’s somewhere he can work on and grow in at the NFL level.

Other linebackers that could be there at 62 when Denver selects include Jacob Rodriguez of Texas Tech and Jake Golday of Cincinnati.

That is, of course, if the Broncos decide to go linebacker with their initial pick of this year’s draft. They could instead go after a tight end, like Eli Stowers if he’s available, or a defensive lineman.

Day 2 of the 2026 NFL Draft kicks off tonight at 5 p.m. MT. The Broncos currently have only one pick during today’s Rounds 2 and 3, but they could move up into the third round, you never know.
