Last year, the Bears’ first-round pick of Colston Loveland had Head Coach Ben Johnson’s fingerprints all over it. One year later, Chicago makes a selection that feels like it was hand-picked by Defensive Coordinator Dennis Allen. And it makes sense. This needed to be an offseason in which defensive priorities took center stage. By the looks of things, that is what is happening.

The Bears’ newest draft pick collected 96 tackles (44 solo), contributed 3.5 tackles-for-loss, intercepted two passes, picked up five passes defended, and even collected a sack. That across-the-board production helped him earn first-team All-American status while playing in the Oregon defensive backfield. And now, he is set to join a Bears defense that could use the type of speed and playmaking ability he projects to bring to the table as a pro.
