Alabama football head coach Kalen DeBoer received a seven-year contract extension on Wednesday afternoon, which will place him among the highest-paid coaches in the country.

The new deal was approved by the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees Compensation Committee on Wednesday, after it was left off the committee’s initial agenda and added shortly before the meeting. Under the deal, DeBoer will earn $12.5 million per season, a $2.25 million raise from his initial deal with the Crimson Tide.
DeBoer posted a 20-8 record across his first two seasons in Tuscaloosa, including a trip to the SEC championship, a College Football Playoff first-round win and a Rose Bowl berth in 2025. He decided to stay with Alabama last December, despite significant interest from Michigan.
“We are excited about the opportunity to continue our time in Tuscaloosa with this contract extension,” DeBoer said in a statement. “This University has become a special place to us, and I look forward to working to ensure that Alabama football remains at the forefront of college football. This program has a long history of success and an unmatched tradition that I was eager to be a part of two years ago, and I cannot wait to keep coaching our guys and bring more championships to Alabama.”
Alabama football will begin fall camp at the end of July, ahead of a pivotal third season under DeBoer.
