ALBANY, N.Y. — A young black bear is back in the wild after being tranquilized and rescued from a tree in downtown Albany on Tuesday.
News10BC’s sister station in Albany reports that neighbors in the area saw the bear Tuesday morning. He stayed on that tree limb for more than four hours.
“Oh, there he goes, there he goes. Ooooooh!” onlookers said as the bear came down.
It’s not something you see every day, but experts say it’s really not that uncommon for bears to find themselves among humans.
“This time of year its not uncommon, young male bears in particular, to start disbursing away from where they were born,” said Jeremy Hurst, a wildlife biologist for the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. “They’ve come out of den with their mother, and maybe other siblings, and they start scattering out in landscape.”
The bear was safely released back into the northern Catskills and clearly eager to return home.
