Chicago Cubs first baseman Michael Busch isn’t afraid to hit the ball the opposite way, as a goose learned at Wrigley Field Monday.
Busch came up to bat in the third inning of the Cubs’ game against the Philadelphia Phillies, and he had an unexpected spectator on the field: a goose.
The goose, as the species typically does, strutted around without a care in the world for several minutes before and during Busch’s at-bat, and every person in the ballpark undoubtedly had the same thought: don’t hit the ball to left field.
Which is exactly what Busch ended up doing.
Fortunately the ball didn’t come anywhere near the goose, which was likely startled by the commotion of Cubs fans celebrating the hit. The goose then beat a hasty retreat for the exit, flying out over the bleachers and into the Chicago night.
Busch later scored on a sacrifice fly from Michael Conforto. That ball, again, did not hit the goose.
