ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Tennis legend and entrepreneur Venus Williams is set to be a guest at the 20th annual Empowering Women Luncheon at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center.
The luncheon on Wednesday, Oct. 7, is a fundraiser for the YWCA of Rochester and Monroe County. This year’s theme is “serving strength, building futures,” aiming to celebrate strength in collective power.
The YWCA says it’s honored to welcome Williams for her work on and off the court. She’s not only won seven Grand Slam titles and four Olympic gold medals, but has also been involved in several business ventures. She’s the founder of V Starr, an award-winning commercial and residential design firm, and launched a plant-based protein company called Happy Viking.
Williams has also been an advocate for gender equality. In 2023, she received the inaugural US Open Billie Jean King Champion of Equality Award for her advocacy for equal pay for tennis athletes.
More about the luncheon
The luncheon begins at noon, followed by a conversation with Williams and Dr. Myra Henry, president of the YWCA of Rochester and Monroe County. The funds raised will go toward critical supportive housing, in-home community care services, specialized workforce development programs, and other YWCA programs.
Tickets are $100 per person with reserved seating, and VIP tickets are available for $200. You can get tickets here. News10NBC’s own Deanna Dewberry will emcee the event.
