While on the face of it, Mint may have seemed like a classic Romeo & Juliet tale, the eight-part series certainly took us all on a creatively shot rollercoaster journey as things closed in for Shannon (Emma Laird) and her family.
When chatting exclusively with Radio Times about what inspired her to craft Mint, Regan said: "I think it came from loving that stuff – I love gangster films, I love crime TV – but wanting to see more about the intimate moments between what we see on screen."
With all eight episodes now available to stream on BBC iPlayer, many may be left wondering if that cliffhanger will lead to anything more. Read on for everything we know so far about Mint's potential second season.
Will there be a Mint season 2?
However, with things ending on a cliffhanger at the end of the finale, things are set up quite well for further instalments.
The first season of Mint was commissioned back in 2024, with filming kicking off in early 2025 after casting had been officially announced.
Of course, with the series not having been renewed just yet, you may have to watch this space.
Who could return for a potential Mint season 2?
Despite being the co-lead of the series, Benjamin Coyle-Larner's Arran was tragically killed at the end of the fourth episode. While he did reappear in apparitions and visions that Shannon had, it was the end of the road for the character's story.
The cliffhanger of season 1 was also the fate of Neil Leiper's Sam, who had taken over the family business after Dylan (Sam Riley) stepped down. However, with Shannon finding out that it was Sam who killed Arran, she took on the responsibility of exacting revenge and we saw her take a fateful shot at Sam in the show's final moments. But did she actually kill him? We'd assume so and would then anticipate that's the last we're seeing of Leiper.
The Mint cast we'd anticipate returning for a potential season 2 are as follows.
Emma Laird as ShannonLewis Gribben as LukeLaura Fraser as CatSam Riley as DylanLindsay Duncan as OllieConnor Newall as LiangeloDavid Carlyle as TomClive Russell as AndyWhat could happen in a potential Mint season 2?
Seeing as Shannon took things into her own hands and got revenge for Arran's murder by killing Sam, could we see her at the forefront of the family business? We saw how Dylan wrestled with the role, which was pushed on him by his father Andy (Clive Russell) but will he continue on in his new 'clean' life with Tom or will those dark forces pull him back?
Speaking about Ollie's character, Regan told Radio Times: “I think I always look forward to people seeing Ollie's moments, and seeing Lindsay as Ollie. It feels different to other things I've seen her in. Even the first day I saw her on set, I was like, ‘Oh my God, that's a proper transformation.’
"So, I think I get excited for people to meet Ollie. I would love a little Ollie goes to Ibiza spin-off, if the BBC will fund it. Just all about Ollie on like a lads on tour kind of holiday, pints, pints, pints.”
