Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Texas high school state runner-up Kate Govin has announced that she will stay in state and swim for Texas Christian University beginning in the fall of 2026. She publicized the news on SwimCloud, writing:

I am so thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to further my academic and athletic career at Texas Christian University! I want to thank God for guiding me through this journey and blessing me with this opportunity. I’m incredibly grateful to my parents for their constant love and support through it all. A huge thanks to my Surge Coach, Andrew, for always believing in me and helping me become the athlete I am today. Finally, thank you to the incredible coaching staff at TCU for this amazing opportunity!

A senior at Pieper High School in San Antonio, Govin was a member of her school’s varsity swimming and diving team all four years. She currently trains year-round with Surge Aquatics, where she specializes in sprint freestyle.

A four-time qualifier for the University Interscholastic League (UIL) 5A State Championships, Govin wrapped up her high school career this February with her best-ever performance at the meet, clocking all of her current lifetime bests. She placed second in the 50 free (23.56) and third in the 100 free (51.60), while also leading off Pieper’s bronze medal-winning 200 free relay (23.40) and its 13th-place 400 free relay (53.37). It was a nice step up from her first three years, when her best individual finish was sixth in the 100 free and no relay had finished higher than sixth.

Govin has been on a tear in both the 50 and 100 free over the past year, as she entered the season with bests of 24.06 and 52.95 before going sub-24 on 12 separate occasions and sub-52 four times, consistency that bodes well heading into college.

She is still searching for a clear third event for the collegiate level. She boasts a lifetime best of 1:59.30 in the 200 free from February 2025, 59.54 in the 100 butterfly from Janaury 2026, and a 1:08.25 in the 100 breaststroke from February 2026, though she doesn’t swim those events at target meets, making her ceiling in each difficult to gauge.

A Division I program, TCU competes in the Big 12 Conference, with the women’s team placing sixth out of 10 teams at this season’s conference championships. To earn a second swim at the meet, it took a time of 23.12 in the 50 free and 50.55 in the 100 free, putting Govin outside the cutoff in her top events.

On the team itself, Govin is projected to rank sixth in the 50 free and eighth in the 100 free, bringing added depth to a youth-heavy sprint group that returns all three of its conference scorers in freshmen Molly Cullen (6th in the 50, 9th in the 100) and Josephine Brant (13th in the 50), as well as junior Hannah Wachendorfer (22nd in the 100, 24th in the 50). With continued improvement, Govin has the potential to factor into the team’s sprint relays, which typically finished in the fifth to sixth place range at Big 12s.

Govin joins 53.4/1:58.9 backstroker Catherine Rowe, who also boasts sprint free bests of 24.7/51.2, as the only publicized commits in the Horned Frogs’ class of 2030.
