SPENCERPORT, N.Y. — The Spencerport Fire District performed a live fire training demonstration at its training facility on Saturday.
Firefighters practiced putting ladders up, advancing a hose line, putting a fire out and searching for victims. People came to watch the exercise.
“The combination of the two events today is have members of the community come out, watch our members in action, and then they get to try a few things. Putting turn out gear on, flowing some water, making a hydron, very basic skills to get the flavor of being a volunteer firefighter and what it’s all about,” said Rich Healy, Spencerport Fire District public information officer.
The idea for having the training on Saturday is to line up with the Recruit NY event. Healy said the hope for Saturday’s event is to get the public out and inspire them to join its next recruit class.
