Strategically dropping the final of the men’s 200m free, world record holder Milak saved all his energy to bust out a super quick mark of 50.93 to lead his 1fly competitors for tomorrow night’s medal-contesting event.
After claiming the top seed out of the morning heats in 52.11, Milak split 23.76/27.17 to stake his claim on the race.
He holds a healthy advantage over rising 17-year-old star David Antal, who clinched the 2nd seed in 52.46 after having cracked Milak’s 50m fly age record en route to bronze in that sprint last night.
Antal also already earned the 200m fly victory here in a new lifetime best of 1:56.45 in the Milak-less final on day two of this competition.
Richard Marton is very much in the mix with a semi swim of 52.84, as is Zoltan Bagi, who touched in 52.92.
As for Milak, however, his 50.93 result is a positive sign that the Olympic champion is coming back to form, despite not having raced since the 2025 edition of these championships.
And, just like that, Milak now ranks 4th in the world on the season, with the final yet to come.

Ugrai registered a winning effort of 1:57.42, hitting splits of 27.05/29.54 (56.69)/30.41/30.32 in the process. This marked a new lifetime best and her first-ever foray under the 1:58 threshold.
Entering this competition, the 21-year-old’s career-swiftest performance checked in at the 1:58.07 notched at last year’s European Championships.
Ainhoa Campabadal of Spain secured silver this evening, putting up a time of 1:59.32 as the only other athlete to clear the 2:00 barrier.
Fanni Fabian bagged the bronze this evening, well behind in 2:01.56.
NCAA star Zalan Sarkany topped the men’s 1500m free podium in a swift performance of 14:54.05.
He notched one of two times under the 15:00 barrier, joined by national record holder David Betlehem, who scored silver in 14:59.59.
Open water ace Kristof Rasovszky also landed on the podium in 15:02.62, good enough for bronze, while Sarkany’s little brother Zeteny Sarkany touched in 15:22.57 for a new Hungarian Age Record.

The women’s 100m fly semi-finals saw just two swimmers dip beneath the 1:00 barrier to set themselves up for potential success tomorrow evening. Beatrix Tanko led the pack with a solid mark of 58.90, followed by Evy Rozeboom, who turned in the 2nd-fastest time of 59.71. Christian Giefing topped the men’s 200m free podium, although it was a rather sluggish final on the whole. Giefing reaped gold in 1:47.34, only .05 ahead of the 100m free silver medalist here, Nandor Nemeth. Nemeth settled for silver in 1:47.39 and Koppany Kakuk rounded out the podium in 1:48.65. Valentin Bayer of Austria proved too quick to catch in the men’s 100m breaststroke, capturing gold in 1:01.13. The fastest Hungarian was Zsombor Petroczki, who snagged silver in 1:01.64. His time tonight was off the 1:01.01 new Hungarian Age Record he stole from Olympic champion Daniel Gyurta yesterday. Viven Jackl is continuing her post-Shane Tusup campaign, touching first in the women’s 800m free tonight. The teen struck gold in 8:27.88 to hold a healthy advantage over Ajna Kesely, who was just over four seconds behind in 8:23.03.
