Men’s 50 Back

Ollie Morgan set himself up as the favorite to claim his 10th consecutive British title tonight as the only swimmer under 25 seconds in the men’s 50 back. Morgan has not been beaten at the British Championships since 2022, winning four 100 back titles, three 200 back titles, and two 50 back titles so far.

His time of 24.67 this morning was just 0.24 seconds off his PB, which ranks him 2nd in British history. He dipped under the 24.70 required to qualify for the European Championships team in the event, swimming his fourth-fastest time ever. He set his PB of 24.43 at this meet last year, before clocking 24.56 and 24.64 at the World Championships.

He stays ranked 6th in the world this season.

Rio Daodu, who was 48.75 in the 100 free last night at 18 years old, was 6th in 25.50.

Women’s 50 Fly

Eva Okaro took top spot in the women’s 50 fly, touching just 0.16 seconds off her PB in 26.35. She already has one title to her name so far this week after winning the 100 free in a PB of 53.75, and just out-touched fellow NCAA swimmer Harriet Rogers who sliced four tenths of a second off her PB in 26.37.

Ciara Schlosshan, who placed 3rd in the 200 fly, was 3rd again here this morning in 26.70, just ahead of Lucy Grieve‘s 26.79 and age group phenom Theodora Taylor‘s 26.81.

Taylor neared Okaro’s age group record of 26.47 this morning, and will be looking to add that to the 200 free age group record she set last night. She placed 4th in 1:58.31, guaranteeing her spot for the European Championships as part of the women’s 4×200 free relay.

Rebecca Guy, aged 33,  placed 7th in 26.95. She set her best time of 26.71 at these championships last year.

Men’s 100 Fly

Ed Mildred cemented his status as the favorite in the men’s 100 fly, clocking 51.54 as one of only two swimmers under 52 seconds. He set a huge PB on Wednesday in the 200 fly, touching 2nd behind Duncan Scott in 1:55.03, and this morning was just 0.18 seconds off the 51.36 he swam in the semi-finals of last summer’s World Championships.

Jacob Peters took 2nd behind him in 51.83, his fastest swim since going 51.56 in the heats at this competition two years ago. He is the second-fastest Brit in history with the 51.16 he swam in 2023, just ahead of Mildred who ranks third.

Joshua Gammon was 3rd here in 52.02, just off his best of 51.65 from the 2024 European Championships. Nick Finch and Jack Brown, in the NCAA with Yale and Cal respectively, placed 4th and 8th this morning to make the ‘A’ final. Finch was just off his best of 52.21 in 52.33, while Brown’s 52.83 was nearly a second off the 51.87 he clocked for silver in the final last year.

Dean Fearn, the European Junior Championships silver medalist and Scottish record holder in the 50 fly, was relegated to the junior final as he placed 12th in 53.44.

Women’s 400 Free

Loughborough’s Lucy Fox was the fastest woman this morning, clocking 4:16.83 to lead 200 free national record holder Freya Colbert by just over two tenths of a second. Colbert was 4:17.06, which included a 1:03.02 final 100 meters, to sit just over ten seconds outside her PB of 4:06.16 from Marsh this year.

Harvard’s Alexandra Bastone, swimming for Chelsea & Westminster, was 3rd in 4:17.14, with 1500 free champ Amelie Blocksidge, still just 17 years old, 4th in 4:17.74. Amalie Smith was 5th in 4:17.95, having swum 1:59.49 in the 200 free junior final last night.

Duncan Scott was one of three men under 2:00 this morning, cruising to the top seed in 1:58.84. That is 0.05 seconds off the 1:58.79 he swam at the Edinburgh international last month, and was half a second ahead of Evan Jones this morning.

Jones was just 0.14 seconds off the best time he set in the final at this meet last year, clocking 1:59.35 to claim lane 5 for tonight. He had the fastest opening 100 in the field in 54.88, 0.43 seconds faster than Scott. Max Litchfield, the 400 IM champions from Wednesday, was 3rd in 1:59.60.

Matt Ward was 5th in 2:00.91 after taking silver in the 100 back last night, having set a new Scottish record in the morning, with fellow Scott and 400 IM silver medalist Charlie Hutchison just behind him. He has just finished up his NCAA season with Florida, where he scored in both the 400 IM and 500 free at NCAAs.

Filip Nowacki was 7th in 2:01.46, a new best by nearly a second and a half. He had the fastest breaststroke split in the field at 33.72, the only swimmer under 34.5.

Women’s 200 Back

Katie Shanahan claimed the top spot in the women’s 200 back, clocking 2:11.96 to sit nearly half a second ahead of Honey Osrin. Shanahan was the 100 back bronze medalist earlier this week, and hit the qualification standard to add this event to her Commonwealth lineup after taking bronze at the meet four years ago.

Osrin was an Olympic finalist two seasons ago and touched in 2:12.40, 3.56 seconds off the her PB from the Paris Olympics. Holly McGill, who will also be seeking a spot on the Scottish Commonwealth team this summer, was 3rd in 2:12.76.
