First Alert Weather In-Depth: Warm temperatures approach records, but fall short ...Middle East

News by : (News10NBC) -

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A prolonged stretch of unseasonably warm weather continues across the region. Climatologically, average highs for this time of year are typically in the upper 50s, making the recent run of 70-degree temperatures significantly above normal. With readings reaching well into the 70s, attention naturally turns to how close we may come to daily record highs.

For Thursday, temperatures are expected to climb into the mid 70s. This will fall short of the record high of 87 degrees set in 2012. On Friday, highs are forecast to reach the mid 60s, well below the standing record of 85 degrees set in 2002.

Saturday will likely mark the peak of this warm stretch, with a projected high near 77 degrees. While temperatures could trend slightly higher, particularly at Rochester International Airport, they are still expected to remain below the daily record of 85 degrees set in 1976.

This early season’s warmth is not limited to western New York. Much of the eastern half of the United States is experiencing similar conditions, driven by a strong ridge of high pressure dominating the pattern. This system is channeling warm air northward into the central and eastern U.S., resulting in temperatures running 10 to 25 degrees above average. Numerous record highs are expected across the Ohio Valley, Tennessee Valley, and Deep South, with the potential for 200 or more records to be tied or broken by week’s end. Cooler-than-average conditions are largely confined to the Pacific Northwest.

This pattern, however, will not persist indefinitely. A shift toward more seasonable conditions is expected in the coming days. The News10NBC First Alert Weather Team anticipates a return to more typical mid-April temperatures beginning late Sunday and continuing into Monday and Tuesday.
