ROCHESTER, N.Y. – It’s our third Yellow Alert in a row for severe thunderstorms. The timing for today will once again be in the afternoon/evening as a cold front scrapes up plentiful warmth and moisture. Expect passing showers to develop around 2-3pm and severe thunderstorms to develop around 5-7pm. Storms should clear out by 9pm. The biggest threats are flash flooding and strong winds, but an isolated tornado and large hail can’t be ruled out. Make sure to stay on top of the forecast, as we will be tracking this all day and sending out updates on the timing and location. Also keep checking the radar on the First Alert Weather app to see exactly where the showers and thunderstorms are.
Once the cold front passes and storms clear out we will get a break in the rain and thunder, alongside cooler air for Friday. Skies will be mostly cloudy turning partly cloudy, with highs in the mid 50s to low 60s from the lakeshore to inland respectively.
Our weekend starts nice with partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the low 60s to low 70s in the morning, followed by less nice weather as another cold front brings more rain around 5-7pm and continuing into Sunday morning. Behind THAT cold front, it will be MUCH cooler to close out the weekend. Sunday highs will only be in the 40s, and it gets worse — Monday we may not get out of the 30s. Keep in mind our average high for that day is 59 degrees. Sunday night there may even be some flakes, but stay tuned for updates on that.
