The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) vs Mumbai Indians (MI) match at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday was an excruciating experience for both fans and the players. A game that started at 7.30 PM IST took over three-and-a-half hours to conclude, thanks to the amount of extras bowled, the reviews taken, and not to forget, the time taken by players on the field to be attended to by the physios. The MI vs RCB game almost created history as it is now the third-longest match to be played in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in terms of balls bowled. Well, it’s a feat that no team would wish to have!

MI failed to chase down the mammoth 241-run target set by defending champions RCB on Sunday. A phenomenal start from Phil Salt, a 38-ball 50 from Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar’s fastest half-century in the IPL powered Bengaluru to 240/4 in 20 overs.

In response, MI faltered in the run chase, with Rohit Sharma retiring hurt in the 5th over due to a hamstring injury. The likes of Suryakuma Yadav, Tilak Varma, and Naman Dhir failed to fire. Hardik Pandya attempted to resurrect the run-chase but could only manage to score 40 runs before he was sent packing.

Sherfane Rutheford emerged as the lone warrior, as he smashed an unbeaten 31-ball 71-run knock, laced with nine sixes. However, it came too little too late as Mumbai ended their innings with 222/5.
