GATES, N.Y. — The Professional Bowling Association returned to the Rochester area this week for the first time in nearly three decades.
The PBA New York Classic wrapped up Sunday at ABC Gates Bowl. News10NBC got a chance to catch up with the tour’s commissioner, Tom Clark, a Syracuse native, about bringing professional bowling back to Western New York.
“It’s awesome to be back in Western New York,” Clark said.
Clark praised the venue and the week’s competition. “Gates Bowl has been an awesome host. Great to the players, great for the fans,” he said. “I’ve been watching live stream all week. Was here yesterday to see the place. I remember it from when I was a kid and it feels the same, so it kind of feels like coming home.”
The commissioner noted the challenging conditions made for an exciting tournament. “I know our players really found the conditions to be challenging. Tricky, interesting,” Clark said. “That’s really good recipe for a great week.”
Austin Grammar won the New York Classic at ABC Gates Bowl, claiming his first ever PBA title. In his final roll, Grammar bowled a 299, one pin away from a perfect game.
The last time the PBA held a tournament in the Rochester area was 1998.
