ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A surge of warmer temperatures and increased humidity will make it feel more like the month of May or early June for this upcoming week. However, with a front or boundary very close to Western New York, the forecast ingredients add-up to the potential for a strong thunderstorm. Current weather data seems to indicate the best timing for any storm will be during the day on Tuesday. Any storms will contain strong gusty winds, heavy downpours, hail and lightning. As a result, the News10NBC First Alert meteorologists have issued a yellow alert for the day. It should be noted that there is still some uncertainty on the precise timing and intensity of any storms. It is recommended that you check back to News10NBC for updates on the forecast.
In the shorter term, it is anticipated that the weather for the start of the week will be calm. Tonight, the unseasonably warm air is already moving into Rochester. The temperature will hover near 60 degrees or even slowly rise overnight. There is the chance of a light shower by Monday morning, but much of Monday afternoon should be mainly dry. We could even see a few breaks of sunshine. The winds will increase by Monday afternoon and the temperature will rise to near 70 degrees.
It appears the unseasonably warmer weather will last into the beginning of next weekend, and the first chance of any cooler weather will not arrive until Sunday and Monday.
