CHARLOTTE, N.Y. — Three dogs were killed in a house fire on Wilder Terrace in Charlotte Sunday morning.
RFD Deputy Chief Mike Vinci says they got the report at around 10:15 a.m. for a structure fire with people possibly trapped.
When crews got there, Vinci says everyone was already out of the house, but three dogs were still inside. He also says the house next store caught fire. The fire started in the back porch and extended onto the second floor, Vinci says. Crews were able to put out both fires in about 25 minutes.
Firefighters were able to get the dogs out of the house, but the dogs didn’t make it.
One neighbor, Christine, saw the fire and called 911. She told News10NBC she could hear popping sounds that almost sounded like mini explosions. She also told us she saw someone try to go back inside the house to get the dogs.
“Its the unfortunate part of these kinds of things that happen,” said Christine. “To people, make sure your animals have a way out. No life is too small.”
Christine says part of her house had damage due to the fire.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Check back later for any updates.
