LAFAYETTE, N.Y. — An investigation is underway after State Police say a trooper shot and killed a woman in LaFayette in Onondaga County.
State Police say at around 1:37 a.m. Sunday, troopers responded to Shute Road in the Town of LaFayette for a report of an erratic driver going through people’s yards at a high rate of speed.
Investigators say a woman hit another woman with her car before police got there. They say a man tried to stop the suspect by putting his car behind hers, but the suspect backed into his car.
When troopers got there, they say they saw the woman try to run over the victim again. They also say they saw the suspect run over another man who was trying to help.
State Police say despite repeated commands to stop, the suspect continued her actions. They say a trooper then shot the suspect. The suspect was brought to Upstate University Hospital, where she later died.
The woman who was hit by the car was pronounced dead at the scene, according to State Police. The two men were also brought to Upstate with non-life-threatening injuries.
The shooting is under investigation by the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation. State Police say the Attorney General’s Office was contacted and responded to the scene.
