BRIGHTON, N.Y. — More than a hundred people gathered at Buckland Park in Brighton for a “walk for peace” on Saturday morning.

Many of them carried signs calling for respect and to keep up hope. The organizer said she was inspired by Buddhist monks who walked for peace from Texas to Washington D.C. earlier this year.

She called Brighton police to help escort them for their own walk for peace.

“The first time I called the police officer I said I think there’ll be about 30 of us, because I said, you know, just my friends, my peace-loving friends. And then I started talking to people, and I called them back, and I said I don’t know, we might have more than 30. So it was a good turnout. I’m really pleased with it,” said JoAnie Bringley, an organizer.

Joanie said there was a very positive energy during the walk and it’s something the world needs more of.
