TYRE, N.Y. — State Police say a 16-year-old boy from Clyde died in a crash involving a tractor-trailer in the Town of Tyre in Seneca County.
It happened just before 9 a.m. Friday on State Route 414. State Police say the 16-year-old was driving south when, on a slight curve in the roadway, he crossed into the other lane and hit a tractor-trailer head-on.
The driver of the truck tried to avoid the crash by applying his brakes, but was unable to do so, according to State Police. He wasn’t injured in the crash.
The 16-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
Members of the State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit (CVEU) did a post-crash inspection of the tractor-trailer, which State Police say was hauling an empty trailer.
State Police say the driver of the tractor-trailer was evaluated at the scene and showed no signs of alcohol or drug impairment.
