2026 Arena Elite Championships & National Selection
April 7 – 12, 2026 Boca del Río, Veracruz, Mexico 50 meter (LCM) Results: “Selectivo 2026” on Meet MobileWe have reached the halfway point of Mexico’s 2026 Elite Championships. This meet, hosted at the Complejo Acuático Leyes de Reforma off the country’s Gulf coast, serves as the selection meet for Mexico’s 2026 international meets. This includes the Pan Pacific Championships, Central American & Caribbean Games, PanAm Aquatics Championships, and the Junior Pan Pacs.
Celia Pulido headlined the meet’s first three days by hitting a national record in the women’s 50 backstroke. She registered a 27.88 in the event final to win by over a second and tie her own Mexican best mark. Last month, the Guanajuato native also hit 27.88 at the Westmont Pro Swim Series in the U.S. Prior to that, Pulido still held the NR at 27.97 from the 2025 World Championships.
Pulido complemented her 50 backstroke win with a pair of victories in the sprint freestyle events. Her winning times stood at 25.72 and 55.77 in the 50 and 100 respectively, and she posted a 55.73 in the 100 free prelims. Both events marked massive personal bests for the 23-year-old Southern Illinois University grad.
Pulido and domestic rival Miranda Grana split wins in a pair of back-to-back, head-to-head match-ups last night. After Pulido got the best of Grana in the 50 back by over a second, Grana flipped the script by winning the 100 fly in a personal best of 59.58. Pulido settled for silver in 59.78. The pair will face each other again, alongside teenager Daniela Linares Danzos, in the longer backstroke events this weekend.
The closest a male swimmer got to breaking a national record, by coincidence, also came in the 50 back. Like his female counterpart, Marcus Reyes-Gentry cleared the field by over a second with a 25.05 win. This just missed the 24.98 NR he posted in Singapore last summer.
Rafael Arizpe Arriaga of Monterrey’s ITSEM university is having a major breakout meet. At 19 years of age, he pulled off an incredible 200 fly/400 IM back-to-back victory in best time fashion. First, he dropped his 200 fly best from 2:01.15 to 1:57.98. Not long after, he dominated the 400 IM with a 4:20.82, a pr by over five seconds. He now sits less than two seconds off the Mexican records in both events.
Andres Dupont seems poised to remain Mexico’s sprint king for another year after racing to a 100 free victory in 49.26.
Stay tuned for a recap of the second half of the meet after it concludes on Saturday.
