It took 18 innings of near impeccable pitching from Eduardo Rodriguez for the Arizona Diamondbacks to give him some run support, but the D-backs broke through in the seventh inning of Thursday’s 7-1 win over the New York Mets.
Rodriguez, after pitching 12 innings with no earned runs to start the year, picked up his first victory, as the Diamondbacks won the three-game series in Queens after suffering a walk-off loss in the opener.
The Diamondbacks are over .500 for the first time this season at 7-6 and are 7-3 over their last 10 games.
Rodriguez walked off the mound after six innings and one earned run in line for the loss. At that point, he was among the bottom five pitchers in MLB in run support.

Ryne Nelson, Diamondbacks' offense break out to even series with Mets
The D-backs had no answers for Mets starter Nolan McLean at that point in the ballgame. Corbin Carroll was out with a tight left hip flexor, which is not expected to be serious, and Gabriel Moreno was on the bench after catching the previous two games, leaving the lineup shorthanded.
But then, Geraldo Perdomo led off the seventh inning with a walk, and Jose Fernandez flared a one-out single to center.
Moreno came off the bench and broke the shutout against Mets reliever Luke Weaver, hitting a game-tying double. And the D-backs were off and running.

Arizona scored four runs in the seventh inning and brought eight batters up to the plate. The D-backs added three more in the eighth, as Moreno hit another RBI double.
The Diamondbacks received sudden production from up and down the lineup. Fernandez dove under a tag on a fielder’s choice. Tim Tawa hit a sacrifice fly. Jorge Barrosa tripled in a run, and Adrian Del Castillo hit an RBI double.
Six hitters drove in runs on Thursday.
The D-backs have not even homered in a week, six games without going yard, but they put up 14 runs over the last two games without one.
Eduardo Rodriguez deals again
Rodriguez allowed his first earned run of the season in the first inning, as Luis Robert Jr. took him deep. After that, Rodriguez retired six of the next seven hitters and escaped a couple jams to keep the Diamondbacks within a run.
The Mets had runners on the corners with one out in the fifth inning, but Rodriguez struck out Robert and stranded them.
Rodriguez threw 91 pitches through five innings, but manager Torey Lovullo kept him in to surpass 100 for the first time this year at 102. Rodriguez threw a 1-2-3 frame to end his night.
It was another outing in which Rodriguez effectively mixed his speeds and avoided much hard contact, even with only three strikeouts.

Over his last nine starts dating back to last season, Rodriguez has a 2.03 ERA, which is top six among Major League Baseball starters.
He put together a three-game span with 18 innings and one earned run toward the end of last season, as well.
The D-backs lost Rodriguez’s first start of the year 3-2 after a blown save at Dodger Stadium. They fell in his second outing 2-0 against Atlanta, a game in which no runs were scored until the ninth inning.
The Diamondbacks called on Taylor Clarke and Taylor Rashi to finish off the Mets, and they did so with three drama-free scoreless innings.
