Heavy rain and a few thunderstorms are expected to develop across northern Illinois Thursday evening and continue through the night.
Some areas could see over an inch of rain while others get less than half an inch.
Thankfully, no severe weather is expected, but flooding will be possible in areas that see the heaviest rain, especially near rivers and streams that are already elevated.
The Kankakee, Illinois, Fox, and Des Plaines rivers are all in minor flood stages in areas near Starved Rock, Elgin to McHenry, through Lake County, IL, and from Shelby to Kouts in Indiana.
TIMING:
A few showers and storms are possible as early as 5 p.m., but more widespread rain is expected after 9 p.m. The highest chance of rain for all of the Chicago is from midnight to 4 a.m. There’s a chance a few light showers hang around for a few hours after sunrise Friday morning.
RAIN AMOUNTS:
The heavier rain is more likely north of I-88. Lower rain totals are expected along the Kankakee River valley. It’s a good idea to check storm drains and gutters to clear any debris; not just for this rain event, but because we’re getting into our rainy season.
