Cubs Prospects Report | April 8, 2026

Triple-A Iowa Cubs

After plating just one run on Tuesday, Iowa’s bats erupted against Omaha for 12 runs on 11 hits in a 12-4 win. The Cubs controlled the game from the get-go as they raced out to a 6-0 lead after three innings. After the Storm Chasers cut the lead to 6-3 with runs in the fourth and the sixth, Iowa pulled away for good with a six-run bottom of the sixth.

Pedro Ramirez got the scoring started for the Cubs with a two-run homer in the first, then catcher Eric Yang belted a three-run blast in the second. The meat of the order was the story of the game for Iowa. Jonathan Long, Pedro Ramirez, Kevin Alcántara, and BJ Murray combined for seven hits, seven runs scored, and seven RBI on the afternoon.

On the mound, Charlie Burns was solid through five innings, allowing just two runs, striking out four, and not issuing a walk. The bullpen was mostly smooth sailing the rest of the way, as well.

Notable Performances

Pedro Ramirez | 2-5, HR, 2 R, 3 RBI, 2B Eric Yang | 3-4, HR, 2 R, 4 RBI, 2B BJ Murray | 2-5, HR, 3 RBI

Double-A Knoxville Smokies

Knoxville played the lone thriller in yesterday’s action. After jumping out to a 3-0 lead on RBI singles from Karson Simas and Alex Madera, the Trash Pandas stormed back with three runs in the third, then two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings. The comeback started in the bottom of the sixth with the Smokies trailing 7-4 with an Alex Ramirez sac fly, making it 7-5. Then, in the eighth, Ramirez brought another run home on an RBI single.

Trailing 7-6 in the 9th, Ariel Armas was the walk-off winner with a one-out, bases-loaded RBI single that brought home the tying and winning runs.

Pitching was a bit rocky for Knoxville as Tyler Schlaffer gave up three runs through three innings and Erian Rodriguez gave up four runs in four frames. However, Dawson Netz and Evan Taylor dominated the final three innings, allowing just one base runner in the closing stretch.

Notable Performances

Jordan Nwogu | 3-4, HR, 3 R Jefferson Rojas | 2-5, R, 2B Karson Simas | 2-4, 2 R, RBI

FINAL:  Smokies 8, Trash Pandas 7 | Box Score

High-A South Bend Cubs

South Bend throttled Peoria for its first win of the season on Wednesday by the score of 13-1. Just about every Cub got involved in the hit parade as Owen Ayers was the only starter to go hitless on the day. Not only did eight of the nine starters have a hit, but seven of the nine had multi-hit days as well.

The two home runs of the day came from Reginald Preciado and Justin Stransky. Kane Kepley had a pair of doubles. Angel Cepeda drove in three runs. Just about everyone has a case to be a notable performer from this one. That includes the pitching, too. Brooks Caple started and allowed just one unearned run over five innings. He struck out seven, allowed just one hit, and walked no one. Alfredo Ramirez was equally as dominant, allowing just one hit over four innings, striking out five, and also walking none.

Notable Performances

Kane Kepley | 2-6, 2 R, 2 2B, SB Justin Stransky | 2-4, HR, 2 R, 5 RBI Angel Cepeda | 3-5, R, 3 RBI, BB, SB

FINAL: Cubs 13, Chiefs 1 | Box Score

Low-A Myrtle Beach Pelicans

Myrtle Beach continued their red-hot start to the new season as they improved to 5-0 with a 14-9 win over Columbia.

The Pelicans jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second on RBI singles from Ludwing Espinoza and Ty Southisene, then they added two more in both the fourth and fifth frames to make it a 7-0 ballgame. The Fireflies fought back in the bottom of the fifth, though, putting up a five-spot to make it just a two-run game. After adding a run in the sixth, Myrtle Beach took a three-run lead into the seventh. But a pair of runs in that frame cut the lead to just one.

In the top of the eighth, however, the Pelicans added a little more cushion first by scoring on a wild pitch, then when Jose Escobar ripped a two-RBI double, making it 11-7. Columbia didn’t go away, though, tacking on two more in the bottom half of the frame to make it 11-9. But the Pelicans had an answer yet again with a three-run effort in the top of the ninth, making it 14-9, which is how this one ended.

Notable Performances

Ty Southisene | 2-5, 4 RBI, 3B, BB Eli Lovich | 1-2, 4 R, RBI, 3 BB Jose Escobar | 3-6, R, 4 RBI, 2B

FINAL: Pelicans 14, Fireflies 9 | Box Score
