A manhunt was underway early Thursday in suburban Elmhurst after a police chase and car crash, with officials sending out an public safety alert to the neighbors as they searched for a suspect.
About 4:30 a.m., police from another agency were pursuing a vehicle wanted in connection with a burglary into Elmhurst, officials said. The vehicle crashed near the Eisenhower Expressway at York and Lake Streets, police said, with one suspect quickly apprehended.
A second suspect inside the vehicle fled on foot, police said. The suspect, a male, was then seen running northeast of the scene into a wooded area near I-290 just east of York.
Through 6 a.m., police searched for the suspect with public safety drones and police K9s. About 6:10 a.m., police said a member of the public saw the suspect and alerted police officers.
Police captured the suspect and took him into custody near Willow and Gladys Streets, officials said.
“The alert is now cancelled as all suspects are in police custody,” a 6:25 a.m. update from the Elmhurst Police Department said.
