PITTSFORD, N.Y. (WHEC) – The Pittsford Sutherland athletics program had a ribbon cutting event on Wednesday to officially open a brand new eight-court facility.
The Knights previously used a smaller five-court facility, which now brings the total to 13 for an ever growing sport and program.
“It wasn’t super convenient, so we’re thrilled,” said junior Cormac Sullivan. “We can’t wait to use them.”
And luckily, they didn’t have to wait, taking on rival Pittsford Mendon right after unveiling the new courts in front of friends and family.
“The sport here in Pittsford has a strong community, but having these on campus, at our high school, right next to our stadium, it just puts them in the epicenter,” said athletic director Patrick Irving.
That side of Pittsford Sutherland now holds a multi-purpose football/soccer/lacrosse field with a track around it, a softball field, and the updated 13 tennis courts.
In the fall, Pittsford Mendon will follow with their own updated tennis courts.
