ALBANY, N.Y. — A Central New York Democrat is introducing two new bills as the debate over New York’s electric school bus mandate continues.

State Sen. Chris Ryan’s first bill would delay the zero-emission deadlines by five years. Right now, school districts have to buy or lease only electric buses by 2032 and their fleet must be totally electric by 2040.
Ryan’s second bill would exempt districts within a 10-mile emergency planning zone of a nuclear power plant. That’s because schools in those areas have to use their school buses to evacuate people in emergencies.
