ROCHESTER, N.Y. — McQuaid opened its 2026 baseball season on a brand-new field dedicated to Father Richard Noonan, the school’s former principal and alumni director.

The Knights, who won the Section V, Class AAA championship last season, played their home opener on the new diamond. The field features a turf infield and outfield and was made possible by school donors, that entire group threw out the first pitch.
McQuaid has won two state titles since 2019 but has rarely gotten to play at their school because of poor field conditions. Players and staff said the new field allows them to actually host home games.
“We get to play 12 home games here this year, which is a big improvement from last year. Only playing one,” team captain Ryan DeJoy said. “The boys are really excited. The coaches are ready to go. We’re all ready to go. And we’re excited to bring another championship back here to McQuaid.”
School President Stephen Saluzzo said the new field gives students a chance to support the team without having to travel. “Now we got a chance to bring a lot of our students out to support the guys on the field, as opposed to having to travel for games and just being able to walk out the back door to the school and watch a baseball game, whether it’s, you know, 42 degrees like today,” Saluzzo said.
Team captain Thomas Bailey said he’s looking forward to the season. “It’s going to be an awesome season. Finally get to play some games here, not at MCC, not one game here,” Bailey said.
The Knights beat Greece Athena 11-1.
