Woman Says She Saved Swimmer Who's Wanted in Murders of His Wife, Other Man ...Middle East

News by : (Us magazine) -

A woman says she saved a swimmer who stands accused of shooting his wife and another man to death outside of a Florida library in March — before she knew that he was wanted for double murder.

Authorities are continuing their search for Jesse Scott Ellis following the brazen murders in Vero Beach on March 24.

That morning, Ellis, 64, gunned down his wife, Stacie Ellis Mason, and Danny Ooley, a man she was potentially having an affair with, at the Indian River County Main Library, according to Vero Beach Police Chief David Currey, Us Weekly previously reported.

Afterward, Ellis’ truck was found abandoned in South Beach, Currey said at a news conference the day after the killings.

In an update on the murders, Currey said at a March 27 news conference that someone who authorities suspect was Ellis was helped to shore, NBC Miami reported.

A woman who recently spoke exclusively with WPBF 25 News said she helped the person who was believed to be Ellis from the ocean near Riomar Beach on March 24.

The woman — who only shared her first name, Belinda — said she saved a man after hearing his cries for help coming from the ocean.

While speaking with WPBF 25 News, Belinda recalled telling the man to turn over on his back as he struggled in the water.

“He got on his back, and he said, ‘I’m exhausted, I’m tired,’ and I said, ‘Do it! Get on your back and let the waves carry you, you can do it, come on,'” Belinda told the TV station.

Police have released footage showing Belinda and the man on the beach after he got out of the ocean, the TV station reported.

Belinda said the man mentioned that he was tired and was “going to take a long vacation.”

She told WPBF that, had she known that the man was a possible murder suspect, she would have immediately called 911.

Wet clothes with sand on them were located in Ellis’ truck that was later found at South Beach, according to authorities, NBC Miami reported.

“He certainly could have made it back to his truck right before we located the truck,” Currey said at the March 27 news conference, according to the news outlet.

An active warrant charges Ellis with two counts of premeditated first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of his wife and Ooley, according to the Vero Beach Police Department.

The department did not immediately respond to an inquiry from Us on Monday, April 6.

At the March 25 news conference, Currey described the killings of Mason and Ooley as a “crime of passion.”

Ellis and Mason were “potentially separating or divorcing” after 13 years of marriage, Currey said.

Authorities believe that she had been romantically involved with Ooley and that their potential affair “upset” Ellis.

Ellis is accused of fatally shooting Mason and Ooley after Mason got into Ooley’s car while meeting him at the Indian River County Main Library on March 24.

According to Indian River County, Ooley worked as the county’s Public Works assistant director, WPBF reported. Mason worked as a county traffic technician.
