Well, what the heck, man. Now Matthew Boyd is hurt, too?
With Cade Horton already hitting the Injured List with a forearm strain, the severity of which is not yet known, the Cubs are ALSO now putting Matthew Boyd on the Injured List:
#Cubs are playing Matthew Boyd on the 15-day IL with a left bicep strain. They’ll recall Javier Assad and he will start tomorrow.
— Taylor McGregor (@Taylor_McGregor) April 6, 2026Javier Assad was already likely coming up to fill in for Horton, but now this means both he and Colin Rea are going to be in the rotation for a while. This is why you have more depth than you think you could need, because baseball is freaking cruel.
As for Boyd, we have no sense just yet on the nature of the injury. A biceps strain is a less common pitcher injury, but because it connects at the elbow, you always worry about something structural (just like the forearm). Hopefully it’s just the muscle in the end, and hopefully it’s very minor and the Cubs didn’t want to risk Boyd – who was looking good – pitching through it.
