Tom's toothpaste at center of class-action settlement. See if you could be owed money ...Middle East

News by : (NBC Chicago) -

Customers who purchased Tom’s toothpaste within the last six years could be eligible for a payout under a new class-action settlement.

The $2.9 million settlement follows a lawsuit against the popular brand, a subsidiary of Colgate-Palmolive Company, which alleged “deceptive and misleading business practices with respect to the manufacturing, marketing, and sale of certain Tom’s toothpaste products.” It cited concerns raised by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration over facility conditions, which the agency said were “not in compliance.”

The company denied the allegations in the suit, but said they “agreed to the settlement to avoid the costs and risks associated with litigation.”

“We have reached an agreement to settle the class action lawsuits alleging false advertising that were filed following a May 2024 inspection of our Sanford, Maine toothpaste manufacturing facility by the US Food and Drug Administration,” Colgate-Palmolive said in a statement. “The court has preliminarily approved the proposed settlement. Tom’s denies the allegations in the lawsuits and is settling to save the expense of costly litigation and allow our team to maintain its focus on the people and communities we serve. Tom’s is committed to making safe and effective natural products for our consumers, and to maintaining trust in our brand.”
