FCS Football: Montana State NFL Draft Picks ...Middle East

News by : (The Analyst) -

There’s only one current FCS football program that participated in the first season of the subdivision and has since had at least one NFL Draft selection in every decade of the level’s existence. Here’s a look at Montana State’s draft history.

Montana State football’s dominating ways to begin the 2020s – a national championship and two runner-up finishes – has underscored it being one of the national powers of FCS football.

The NFL has taken notice of the talent within the Big Sky Conference program, even long before Montana State was one of the FCS’ original programs in the 1978 season.

Ironically, Jan Stenerud, the only former Bobcats’ player to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, arrived to Montana State on a skiing scholarship, not football. Plus, the legendary kicker from Norway was drafted into the AFL in 1966, later joining the NFL when the two leagues merge.

Montana State’s most-recent NFL Draft pick was Tommy Mellott in 2025 following his Walter Payton Award season.
